"This photo was taken on a back stairway in the old ALCOA Laboratory in New Kensington, Pennsylvania. This building was built by ALCOA in 1929. The building was designed by architect Henry Hornbostel and ALCOA's in-house architect Pierre Richard Leonard Hogner.

My uncle was a scientist in this building after serving in the US 8th Army during the Korean War. A graduate of St Francis College, he was drafted and served with the 92nd Armored Field Artillery and was wounded in combat and sent home. After the war, his first and only job was with ALCOA in this building. He spent the next 35 years with ALCOA. One of the highlights of his career was developing the coatings used on the aluminum on the World Trade Center."

As a companion piece, also check out my son Shane's illustration of the ALCOA Lab.

Printed from an Epson Expression XP-15000 printer using Claria Hi-Definition Ink on a 13x19" sheet of ultra premium luster photo paper.

Mailed in flat, rigid envelopes to prevent damage or curling, and are ready to frame.
