Vector illustration of WWII Dodge Power Wagon 12x18".

The theme for the 2005 Pittsburgh Society of Illustrators show at the Art Institute of Pittsburgh was "The Beatles". Honestly I've never owned a Beatles album, I was a little young when they first came to America in the 1960s and by the time I really started getting into music in the 1970s, my musical interests more with the California sound and progressive country. So with that being said, I was at a loss for something to do.

With the help of my friend, Doug Herchuck, I did a little brainstorming and research on the Fab 4. With his vast knowledge of music, Doug was a great wealth of information. I did a search of song titles and sifted through the lyrics looking for inspiration. My first thought was to do a piece of aircraft Nose Art using a Beatles song as the theme. After kicking around several possible songs, I settled on "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds" since it offered so much to work with in terms of symbolism and visuals. This is the result.

Now see if you can find all the things that were mentioned in the song.
